Happy Birthday To Us! New Leaf Turns Two!
Back in November 2009, in one of the worst economies in the last century, a couple of lawyers had a crazy idea: let's start a law firm for entrepreneurs! Looking back on it now, my first thought is always "What. the. HELL we were thinking?!" And you know what? I think the key to our initial successes was that, frankly, we weren't thinking. Like most entrepreneurs, we were driven by an absolute, almost insatiable need to follow a vision and idea that we were passionate about. We wanted to serve entrepreneurs and artists, serve them very well. But even crazier, we wanted to show people that you can not only like you're lawyer, but, if you're a lawyer, you can actually like being one! I can't speak for Jess, but I made a promise to myself the day I was sworn in - that if the time ever came that I didn't like practicing law, I would stop. I am very pleased to say that, thanks to our decision to start New Leaf, I believe that day is far, far away.
I've said this before (I say it a lot, actually), but I LOVE my job. I love what I do. I am proud to be a the founder of a fun, quirky, progressive (and sometimes silly if you've seen our Facebook or Twitter feeds) law firm whose core mission is to counsel and provide legal work to entrepreneurs that is well-informed, but most importantly, practical in the real business world in which we actually exist. We hope that we have the privilege of continuing to do this for many years to come.
This unlikely journey would not have been possible (and can't continue to be possible!) without the help of many, MANY other people - all of which can't possibly be named here. However, we definitely owe a huge amounts of thanks to our family, friends and loved ones, who have never waivered in their support of our dreams and goals. It's not easy being the "cheerleader" for an entrepreneur (Thanks, Mom!), but we seem to have been fortunate to surround ourselves with people that are really, REALLY good at it. Also, to our clients, for all the kind words about our work, your referrals and recommendations, and (honestly!) for keeping a roof over our heads. We are thrilled to have the chance to work with all of you and look forward to continuing to do so. Finally, to our fellow entrepreneurs, especially those in the Boston community. Going to events is often like going to some crazy entrepreneur pep rally, and it keeps us motivated.
Stay tuned over the next month, as we're planning our annual Holiday Party/Birthday Bash - we hope you'll come celebrate in person with us! Until then, Thank you (from both of us), Gracias (from Shannon ), and Merci (from Jess) for two wonderful years at New Leaf. We are beyond estatic to continue this journey!
